Venturing Into Online Dating

Are you single and considering getting out there in the dating game? For some of you, things have changed a lot. With the birth of the internet, there are many online dating sites that you can register on and start meeting people straight away. No more relying on your mates to fix you up with a suitable date, you can just go online and find someone yourself, no problems.

Sounds too easy doesn't it? Well it is and it isn't. Getting back out on the dating scene after being married for twenty or thirty years is daunting. It's even a little bit scary. However, the great thing about the internet is you can chat to people for as long as you want via email or instant messages or even video chat and get to know them a little before venturing out to meet up in person.

The online dating game is no different to how we dated in high school really; you meet someone you like, chat for awhile via email or whatever and then meet for coffee or a meal. The object of your affection will likely put his or her best foot forward and will only show you the best side of their behavior; however after a few dates, you will know whether he or she is what you are looking for in a partner. It's pretty close to what we did in high school and college, however you are meeting people online.

Perhaps you are not looking for a partner or someone to settle down with, that's okay too. There are many people on these dating sites that are looking for friendship or friendship with benefits, if you know what I mean. It's really just a matter of overcoming your nervousness and joining a few sites. I recommend a few sites because it is a good idea to cast a wide net, so that your chances of meeting more people are increased.

One big tip when joining these sites is to include the best photo you have of yourself. People who post profiles without photos could be seen as having something to hide and a photo will get you more responses as people want to put a face to the person they are emailing with. Many dating sites enable video chat for their clients, so if you plan on using this feature, then perhaps a photo will not be necessary.

Another great piece of advice is never lie on your profile. You would be shocked at just how many people do this and think they are getting away with it. Once you meet your prospective date face to face, they will know that you lied and it is likely your date will not happen. Just be yourself and try to be as honest as possible without telling the people you are talking to your life story. And, last of all when you do decide to take the plunge and register on these sites, have fun.
